Prize Wheel for Wisdom Party

Here's the prize wheel in motion. Spinning wheel, got to go round.

The wheel stand is plywood. The face is 1/8 maple.

The stopping pegs are Lite Brite pegs, found in many basements and on eBay.  We cut the extra off in the back to make them smooth.

To make it spin even better, we added weights to the back.

The plan is to add an LED behind the bottom spot and have it track the wheel's spin speed and light up in pace with the wheel.

Determining the Winners

We engraved 2 aluminum cards for each of the 12 symbols. The cards for each symbol were engraved on colored blanks that marched the pegs on the wheel, so for example,the winner in the spin above would be the Ganesh card in green.  If the wheel had stopped two places to the left, the purple Ganesh would have been the winning card.

Cards were made in green and purple for half the symbols and orange and pink for the other half.  

This gave us 24 possible winners for each spin.

What's a Wisdom Party?

A Wisdom Party is when you gather friends and each shares a wisdom story or a rule (or rules) to live by.

For example, a wisdom story could be:

A Native American elder was teaching his children about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to them. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandchildren thought about it and after a minute one of them asked, “Which wolf will win?” The elder simply replied, “The one you feed."

And a rule to live by might be something like "comfort in, complain out" from Ring Theory.

The party was September 16, 2018.  Twenty-three amazing people attended. Food, drink, companionship, wisdom, and fabulous prizes were shared by all.
